"I may be wrong, I may be right, I may never see the light, but you can never take away my freedom,
Can take everything I own, can have what's in my song, but can never take away my freedom..."
"I hate that song."
Kreeno's happy singing died away at the sound of Jereth's sneering tone. Kreeno glared at his lover. "You don't like anything." he said playfully. Jereth raised an eyebrow.
"I don't like happy songs." Jereth growled. Kreeno nipped his legs and pranced ahead of him, humming the song his lover had stopped him from singing.
Jereth followed his lover on his senseless quest to 'get to know Thannendell better'. He really was only tagging along to protect Kreeno. No sense in having the First Emperor die of a stupid cultural mistake.
"One more god damned day when I know what I want and what I want will be considered tonight..."
"Quit it." Jereth snarled. Kreeno rolled his eyes.
"You don't like happy music, you don't like depressing music... we have to have some noise." The First Emperor pointed out.
"No, we don't." Jereth retorted. "You dragged me into these mountains, the least you could do is give me some peace and quiet."

The king walked alone in the midst of the enemies territory, dressed in fine robes which cut off half way down his knee-height walking boots. The silky fabrics were the colour of bloodstones (a shining red crystal more precious than ruby: a darker glow), and were decorated with marvelous black stitching. Long sleeves and a draping gown which swished around his legs. A high collar befriended a fine black shirt with a ruffled V-neck. Solid white-gold earrings adored the edges of his long, pointed ears, two on each.
His outfit alone would cost decades of labour to pay for it and much more time to make the entire form. But to top it off, worth thrice what his clothes did, the imperial crown circling his white hair had be be the most beautiful and grand material upon him. It was not heavily jeweled- why should it be? The intricate patterns swirls and seemed to move as light passed over them. The crown itself was typically ribbed with the shark-teeth vertical points but what made his crown unique was the single vertical point in the front centre which was far longer than all the other points. It's patterns were the most eye catching and sparked a sense of awe and fear into whoever gazed at this. It gave connotations to unicorn's and stags, the grandest and most masculine of creatures that ever walked the earth. And these were just his walking clothes.
The king himself was old, his rich ebony skin was withstanding the test of time as best it could, yet irremovable creases and sags did not escape the eye. His eyes were a brilliant red, they seemed to glow and beam right into the soul of whoever his hawk-gaze pierced. He was unarmed.
To many, it would seem insane that such a makeup would be walking around in enemy lands. Alone. Unarmed. Showing off such finery that many would kill for. But the king was confident, striding along with muscles like pistons under his royal garments.
He looked amused, the glint in his eye daring people to come close. Tall and regal he marched, but enjoyed the walk. Arrogantly he slowed his pace, taking his time to make those waiting for him loyally wait longer. He was late. He didn't care.

Kreeno pranced around Jereth. "Well, if you want I'll go find some food, and you can have all the peace and quiet that you want." he smirked playfully. Jereth made a shooing gesture and Kreeno sped off, howling his happiness.
The Second Emperor was dressed richly. Greaves carved in one piece from the gigantic tusks of hylar adorned his forearms, depictions of the wars between humans and caralathians on them.
His wedding ring was a band made from the jawbone of an opposing king. Kreeno had hand-crafted it months before their wedding. His claws had carved out intricate patterns that were barely visible to the human eye, but to a caralathian's superior sights were gorgeous, twisting and writhing. A small black pearl was set in the middle of the band. Jereth didn't wear a crown...caralathians considered it to be too humanly.
The robes he wore were leather, extraordinarily light considering they used to be the skins of humans. Drow leather boots, supple and tough, were on his feet. Patterns in jin'ra leather snaked through the robes.
A throat collar, a silver band around his throat to protect it, had a juvenile juru fish fang hanging from it...serrated and curved like a hook.
Jereth sighed, finding a suitable chair. It turned out to be a large piece of granite jutting out from the mountain, shaded by a twisted oak. He pulled out his sketchpad, a pot of ink, and swan-feather quill and began sketching the countryside before him with expert skill.
He didn't notice, or perhaps ignored, Seras' presence.

Normally Seras would have carried on walking. But he was trying to waste time on purpose so took notice of the creature he saw drawing on the rock. Arrogantly he mused that he would teach the creature a lesson if he even dared try to attack him Seras'd proudly show him who's boss.
Maybe it was time for a rest himself, the well dressed man up there was interesting enough to look at for a time- had to be the most regal looking person (besides himself) for miles around. Hermits and miners littered the area, grubby and hungry. Strikes in the mines were just causing more poverty.
Seras shook his head, 'lessors' he muttered his thoughts. He walked a little way on and took rest below a tree, after making sure no elves were hiding in it. Satisfied with the peace of the land he sat down on a rock, leaned back against the tree trunk and watched the creature.
He tried to work out what race he was.

Jereth finished his sketch with a flourish, glaring at a woodpecker that had taken up residence in a tree about fifty yards away. He was about to set down his quill when he spied the bone tip. He growled, and with one fluid movement the quill left his hand.
When Jereth opened his eyes the woodpecker was struggling its last against a tree, the quill buried up to the downy feathers in its eye.
Jereth brought out another quill from the drow-skin drawing satchel he had brought with him, setting the satchel behind him on the grass. It was fastened with a hylar bone toggle. Jereth set a small statue beside it. Stolen off the corpse of a xio'pan, the infant hylar statue made for a good, near tireless mount.
The Second Emperor glanced at Seras once, then started sketching the other man.

Knowing the other man had seen him Seras decided he wasn't an enemy. He would have attacked him already, instead of sat there, glancing at him. Why did the artist not pay much attention to him? ... He must be afraid of the Drow Lord.
Seras smiled easily, feeling ever more relaxed to be above ground and out of his House. He watched the death of the woodpecker and was reminded of his hunger, forgetting his own feelings he took more interest in the skill of the death.
The king tried to work out what sort of person as well as what king of creature was sitting over there. Curiosity nipped him but arrogance demanded the creature gained audience with him first. The best thing to do would be to cast a scan on the creature; always better to know what one was dealing with before delving into matters. He spied the caralathian (though the name of his race he did not know) and waved his hand gently- the magic running through the air like electricity through water. The word 'caralathian' came to mind. This pleased the king, now he had a word to work with.
But what was a caralathian? This little word only intrigued him further. Seras rubbed his chin. ... The caralathian had noticed him... yet... not caused any kind of reaction!? This idea startled Seras... annoyed him to say the least. No one could possibly ignore him! It was outrageous! He was to be seen and heard and heeded! Such was the way of Drow.
The creases on his forehead furrowed as his moon-light silver eyebrows frowned. ... 'Nothing for it, go demand the caralathian explains himself.' He rose, his spine's joints clicking as he did so, then made his way towards the artist and his rock.

Jereth's brow creased and he was forced to finish the black and white ink drawing from memory as the drow came to him. He set aside the linen paper, expensive and beautiful...smooth. Any professional artist who recognized its value would have given his eyeteeth for a sheet.
He glared at the blood trickling down the wood of the tree, wishing he had some red ink. The ground up scales of red-skinned xio'pan made the best...but the reds were getting rarer and rarer because of the war...blues, purples, blacks were easy to find. But reds? He'd have better luck making silver paint out of unicorn horn.
Jereth faintly wondered where Kreeno was...but then again he had forbidden his lover to come near him with a bloody mouth. It roused his human instincts...and he hated the fact he was a prey race.
But so was the man coming to him.

And still there was no irked reaction. Was this man brave or just stupid? Having come closer Seras could tell he was not from Sethen~ may have been accepted in on a technicality unlikely, yet possible.
A mundane artist? No, dressed too richly, artists were poor unless hired by royalty. So, a rich man in his leisure time. But come here without servants? If he'd wished to be left in peace he would not have been in the king's path.
Seras noted the drow-skin boots and bag. Was he bothered? Not really. They didn't belong to his Drow. Other kings had duty to watch over their kins.
The scan brought up some information now he was closer. The man was not exactly alone, had killed his fair share in life, was almost certainly not Sethen bound. That was note enough, "Out of your area, aren't you?" He said delicately, looking at the man before him.

"As are you, drow." Jereth responded curtly. He glanced at the drow, taking up the satchel in his lotioned hands and flicking it open. Different bottles of expensive ink, sticks of charcoal in a cedarwood case, and paints were arranged in a separate pocket from the paper, and Jereth slid the drawings inside.
"I wonder where your guards are. The king of a house shouldn't be wandering out of the sights of his mate and household. Irresponsible, a braver man would say." Jereth continued. "Where is that blasted boy..." he added, to himself.
He tucked the satchel by his side. On the back of his left hand a slave brand of the Isshi-Ka glared, an old white scar.

"I may walk where and with whom I wish. The king of a House can look after himself." He'd seen that slave brand before and it made him wonder more about who this person was. He liked to think the man before him was afraid now; seeking his fellow 'that boy' to come to him. 'Hmph.' ... 'mate not queen?' It almost confirmed his thoughts about the status of the human.
An artist to a wealthy person, probably from Sethen, out and about doing his things.
"Where do you hail from?" Seras knew the human would not be from Tachanarm. He decided he didn't like him much- would probably end up killing him. If he had time.

"Issi-Ka, Xxellek Valley, in Galadoria. Rather amusing place if you like to see cannibals with pomp and ceremony." He said, making a point not to look directly at the other man's face. "Rather ridiculous if you ask me." he commented.
He stood, inclining his head to the drow. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I must find the boy before he kills himself. Never had much of a head for an emperor..." he rolled his eyes. "I'd do much better as a First Emperor rather than relegated to the second position."

"An emperor's second with a slave brand?" Seras almost mocked but questioned seriously. He shifted- not made up his mind if whoever-this-is was lying to intimidate him or not.
The mention of 'that boy' again, Seras looked over his shoulder on compulsion. Whoever-this-is would be a young emperor's artist then. A slave who felt too highly of himself- believing he could be greater than the youth. Seras let him believe what he liked, unconvinced at the human's attitude.
He wondered if he'd ever cross their path again. To see his full crown and title would surly turn his head. Humans... bloody difficult to impress but as soon as you mention the possibility of a creator-god they're all suddenly awed. Nothing greater than divine status would turn their ignorant heads.

Kreeno was trotting up the hill toward Jereth, humming under his breath happily. He glanced at the drow, smiling genially at him. He rubbed against Jereth's legs. "Sorry I took so long, babe." he smiled. Jereth flicked a fingernail against his ear sharply.
"Ouch! Sorry, sorry. Jerry." Kreeno grinned. Jereth glared at the First Emperor in rage.
"Enough. Get out of here. Come find me when you have enough respect commanded of your station." Jereth growled. Kreeno flipped him a choice finger and trotted off, smiling at Seras.
"Nice to see you." he said.
"OUT." Jereth roared. Kreeno beat a hasty retreat, and Jereth worked the veins in his neck. He'd definitely have to give the boy a piece of his mind later.

Seras would not blame these lessors for their uncouth behaviour. They were not drow, what could you expect from such people?
"If that was your emperor..." Seras narrowed his eyes but gave off his usual bored or unimpressed expression. He folded his arms, wondering why 'the emperor' had been walking on all fours like a dog. Had claws, like a dog. 'Primitive' though he was more welcome to the smile he'd received than the human's awayward gazes.
He decided firmly that he was great and this pair was not. He waited for more explanation as to why that lad had just been on his hands and feet. What was he?!

Jereth chuckled. "If you're wondering what he is, I won't tell you. Most people can't get to sleep for paranoia." he said coldly. "Least of all the underground dwellers and peasants..."
His eyes met Seras'. "He is not my ruler, by the way. He is the ruler of his own people, foolish though he is...he has a gift with his own kind. They do not trust me, so he is a useful tool." he said.
He folded his arms. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have more important things to do than entertain the curiousity of something my people consider food." he said dismissively, picking up his satchel, turning his back on Seras and walking after Kreeno.
